How to Organize the Perfect Closet 101

You have found the most outstanding apartment. Natural light is bellowing in through the windows, the kitchen are roomy, and you can't wait to soak in the garden tub. As you start unpacking your stuff into the closet, it becomes evident you may have too many clothes. And shoes. Maybe your friend won the roomier closet, your spouse actually has more to hang up, or the space is more cramped than you thought. Here are a few tricks to make the most out of your situation.

Hangers over Folded Piles!

Hangers are generally accepted as a necessary evil. Buying hangers is a chore and not thought of as fun. However, the types of hangers you decide to use in your closet can increase or remove space. Using velvet hangers will add so much availability in your closet and velvet hangers are easy on the wallet. Also, keep your hangers the same color. It's really easy to become distracted by unorganized hangers.

Organize with a Plan!

After you've kicked your old hangers to the curb, organize your pieces by color as well as sleeve length. We have all been there - combing through shirts to find that perfect sleeveless blue button up. Dividing up your closet from light to dark is easy, but enjoy the process! Don’t forget you’re the one who has to look at it every day.

Having Folded-Clothes isn't the End of the World!

Not every item needs to be on a hanger. Your shirts, sweaters and jeans can all be folded into drawers or onto shelving. Folding items will keep the closet bulk manageable. The contrast between hanging and folded pieces will ensure you see your closet more easily.

If there is Space, Use it!

Utilize extra storage for the base of the closet. Store accessories or folded clothing in the cubbies and place shoes underneath. If there is still space, the top [of|part of|area of]184] the organizer can be used. There is no reason to leave empty space in a closet - only unused possibilities.

+1 for the Road...

If you have space in the bedroom, a rolling rack is the ideal addition to any wardrobe. Create a plan for your outfits either daily or weekly, use your best pieces as adornment, or simply use the rolling rack as extra storage space.
